Parkay Flooring Repair
If you are lucky enough to have beautiful parkay flooring, you will more than likely be taking very good care of it. Parkay flooring is very durable and lasts for a long time, and it can also be veneered several times if you sand it down properly. Parkay flooring, however, is also very expensive and if there are any breakages in it, you will probably be more inclined to look for information on parkay flooring repair rather than replace your entire floor.
Do It Yourself Parkay Flooring Repair
Luckily, most parkay flooring repair issues can be completed by yourself if you know what you are doing. Below are four easy steps to help you restore your parkay floor to tip top shape and condition.
1. Firstly, check your entire floor to find out which blocks of flooring are damaged or broken. If you are undertaking parkay flooring repair, you may as well do the entire floor in one go. You can check if they are still solidly laid by stepping on each block individually to see if there is any movement, as well as tapping each block. Any hollow sounds mean that there is some repair that needs to be done. Carefully remove each of the damaged blocks you have been able to identify. You need to take extreme care in making sure you do not damage the other blocks in this process of course. Following this, you will need to find replacement blocks. You may still have some, or there may be some in an area that you are not using. Reclamation yards are also great places to find parkay flooring.
2. Once your blocks are removed, clean the area and make sure the floor underneath is once again perfectly level. If you find that the floor underneath your parkay blocks is incredibly uneven, you may want to use some ply wood to level it back out.
3. Once that has been completed, you can place the new blocks where they need to be, using the proper adhesive to keep them in place.
4. Next, you will need to sand the entire floor to ensure that the new parkay floor is of the same texture as the rest of the floor, followed by a new layer of veneer to cover the entire floor.
Safety in Parkay Flooring Repair
Of course, with all materials that you use at any point in this process, it is incredibly important to ensure you have read the instructions and followed them. Some of the materials included in adhesives and veneer can be toxic, so make sure you know how to handle them.
Knowledge for Future Repairs
Once all of this has been completed, you will once again have a beautifully finished parkay floor. Furthermore, you will have learned how to undertake parkay flooring repair for any future damage you may encounter – although, if you undertook the steps properly, you should have been able to identify any parts of the floor that were not in perfect condition, meaning that you should not have any further damage problems.
