Parkay Flooring Tiles
Installing a new floor is a big decision! What goes best with your interior? How much money do you have to spend? What sort of colours will you be going for? Agreeing with the other people in your household is probably an even bigger task, as everyone will have their own opinion on what will look best. You could choose from wooden floors, laminate, carpet, parkay and much, much more!
What are Parkay Flooring Tiles?
Parkay flooring tiles are generally square pieces of premade parkay that you can lay yourself. Of course, you can also ask an installer to do it for you. Parkay is generally made out of different types of wood, or of woods with different grains and shades, to give an unusual and unique design. By opting for parkay flooring tiles, you can truly design your whole floor entirely to your own liking.
Equipment Needed to Lay Parkay Flooring Tiles
It is possible to lay parkay flooring tiles yourself if you know what you are doing and have the proper tools and accessories. The things you will need to have to hand are:
- Parkay flooring tiles
- Chalk
- A handsaw or power saw
- Cork expansion strips
- A rubber mallet
- A framing square
- A trowel
- Sandpaper
- Some adhesive
- A prybar
- A few screwdrivers
How to Lay Parkay Flooring Tiles
In order to lay the parkay flooring tiles right, you first have to ensure that your surface is well prepared. You can use screwdrivers or a prybar to remove all the previous flooring, making sure you also remove any nails that may be in your floor. Also remove the doors from their hinges – unless you have a step. You will then need to make sure that your floor is perfectly level, which you can achieve by sanding your floorboards and by using some ply board if you have a particularly warped floor.
With your framing square, you can then mark out how you will be placing your parkay flooring tiles by drawing the edges with chalk. Make sure you do leave some space between the wall and the tiles, which is where the cork expansion strips will go. These should be included with your tiles when you purchase them. It is also advisable to have a practice run by putting all or at least some of the tiles in place without actually fixing them to the floor yet. Particularly if you are planning on a specific design, it can be useful to see what it will look like when it’s finished.
Once you have completed all these preparatory issues, you will be ready to actually lay the parkay flooring tiles themselves. They are generally stuck to the floor with adhesive, which can be quite quick drying so work as though you only get one chance at it. The rubber mallet can be used to tap the tiles into place. Once you have let the glue set overnight, you will be ready for the finishing touches and you will have yourself the most beautiful parket flooring tiles floor!
